Gavin Martin is recognized as one of the most accomplished DJs in Australia.
He has been djing since 1996 and in that time he has managed to find his way onto the line-up at all the major events & festivals in the progressive and trance world in Melbourne, as well as extensively interstate & overseas.
His music style is diverse, blending elements of deep evolving progressive, techno & house sounds with intelligent atmospherics and an ear on forward-thinking sonics.
Diverse roots stemmed from a love of early 1990 rave sounds, into the early days of Melbourne's outdoor scene and finally a natural evoloution into more progressive sounds, inspired by the likes of Sasha & Digweed.
In the late 90's Gavin began to gain mainroom spots at all of the big progressive events in Melbourne, such as Two Tribes, Gatecrasher, Welcome, Platipus Sound System, Renaissance & many more, playing alongside & warming up for many big names, like Digweed, Dave Seamen, Sander Kleinenberg & Anthony Pappa among others.
Together with Green Ant's Frank Venuto, he put on Melbourne's infamous Substance underground progressive nights over a three year timeframe in the early 2000's, touring & playing with international acts including Lucien Foort, Lexicon Avenue, Max Graham, Andy Jarrod (3 beat), Lemon 8, Christopher Lawrence & many more.
In 2003, Gavin became resident at Private Function, which went on to be Melbourne's premier progressive club night, spanning 3 years. Gavin mixed the Private Function Sessions CD – volume 3 in 2005.
Gavin has been for some 8 years, a resident & representative dj for Melbourne's world renowned Green Ant & Rainbow Serpent Festival, playing the infamous Monday day session, to open minded & eared full dancefloor listening audiences, warming up for & playing alongside some of the worlds finest, including Minilogue, Antix, Kruger & Coyle & many more.
Gavin also plays regularly at other festivals across Melbourne & beyond, such as Akasha Festival, Earthcore, Winter Solstice, Earthdance & Maya Project, as well as many club nights varying from bigger scale indoor international events to more intimate rooms.
The last two years have seen Gavin embark on two tours of Japan, playing in Tokyo and Nagoya. He has also played in India, New Zealand & Thailand over the years and is increasingly getting a following internationally as both a DJ and producer.
2007 saw Gavin’s productions begin to be noticed under both his Fulcrum & GMJ aliases. His debut releases on both Open and Bus Records saw great reviews and paved the way for upcoming collaborations on Vapour, System, Segment, Kult and Resurgent.
His latest release on Open, the Torgant EP has also been a great success, charting as high as #8 on the Progressivehouse.com charts and getting great feedback from artists like Hernan Cattaneo, Andy Newland, Nicholas Van Orton, Profane, Solead and many more.
With plenty more releases on the way on Open Records and more, make sure you watch out for Gavin’s unique take on progressive & techy sounds in the future!
